Job Summary

SME Careers is seeking a Tax and Audit subject-matter expert for an hourly, remote contractor role. The expert will review AI-generated tax and audit responses and/or create accounting material, evaluate step-by-step problem-solving, and provide precise feedback. Work includes checking accuracy, clarity, completeness, and prompt adherence; identifying errors in tax treatment, compliance logic, audit methods, risk assessment, internal controls, and financial-reporting connections; verifying technical claims; producing model explanations; and comparing responses for correctness and reasoning quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Create detailed prompts and gold-standard tax and audit outputs, including tax scenarios, audit programmes, workpaper examples, control assessments, and technical explanations.
• Evaluate and rank AI responses for technical accuracy, clarity, compliance alignment, and practical usefulness.
• Test AI output for inaccuracies, unsafe or noncompliant guidance, and bias across business scenarios.

Your Profile

• A bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related subject; CPA, ACCA, EA, CIA, or a local equivalent is a strong advantage.
• At least 5 years of professional tax and/or audit experience in public accounting, advisory, internal audit, or industry.
• Strong knowledge of tax fundamentals relevant to the applicable jurisdictions, including corporate and individual basics, taxable-income adjustments, credits and deductions, nexus or permanent-establishment awareness, withholding, and VAT/GST where applicable.
• Strong audit fundamentals, including planning, materiality, risk assessment, control testing, substantive procedures, sampling concepts, and the quality of audit evidence.
• Proven ability to prepare or review clear, defensible, audit-ready workpapers, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
• A solid understanding of internal controls such as segregation of duties, approvals, and access controls; familiarity with SOX concepts is an advantage.
• Minimum C1 English and exceptional attention when checking facts and detecting unsupported conclusions, omitted steps, incorrect citations, or noncompliant recommendations.
• The ability to assess internal consistency across debits and credits, timing and cut-off, tax logic, and financial-statement effects.
• Reliability, independence, and consistent quality in an hourly remote workflow spanning time zones.
• AI data training or annotation, audit quality assurance, tax technical writing, or policy-interpretation experience is strongly preferred.
