Job Summary

SME Careers is seeking an Insurance Subject Matter Expert for an hourly, remote contractor role. The expert will review AI-generated insurance responses, create specialist insurance content when required, assess step-by-step decisions and reasoning, and provide precise written feedback. The work includes checking accuracy, clarity, regulatory and compliance awareness, and prompt adherence; finding errors in policy interpretation, coverage analysis, claims-handling logic, underwriting reasoning, risk assessment, exclusions, endorsements, and terminology; verifying technical insurance information; producing model solutions that demonstrate correct methods; and comparing responses for correctness and reasoning quality.

Important

There is no immediate project for this role; however, qualified experts may be among the first people contacted when relevant opportunities arise and can gain access to future projects through the expert network.

Key Responsibilities

• Create detailed prompts and gold-standard outputs concerning coverage analysis, claims scenarios, underwriting decisions, and policy communication.
• Evaluate and rank AI responses for correctness, completeness, clarity, and compliance-aware reasoning.
• Test outputs for inaccuracies, misleading guidance, inappropriate certainty, and bias, and assess reliability across use cases.

Your Profile

• A bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, Law, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 5 years of insurance experience in claims, underwriting, brokerage, actuarial support, risk management, compliance, or operations.
• Strong understanding of policy structure, including insuring agreements, definitions, conditions, exclusions, endorsements, limits, deductibles, and coverage triggers.
• Comfort with coverage and claims reasoning in one or more lines such as property and casualty, commercial lines, motor, homeowners, liability, health, or life.
• Ability to test internal consistency from facts through policy language, coverage position, and documentation, including ambiguity and edge cases.
• Strong attention to missing facts, faulty assumptions, misapplied definitions, and unsafe or unsupported recommendations, with at least C1 English proficiency.
• Clear written communication and the ability to explain complex policy concepts in plain language.
• A reliable, self-directed approach and the ability to maintain consistent quality across time zones in an hourly remote-contractor workflow.
• Professional designations such as CPCU, AINS, ARM, CIC, or AU are advantageous.
• AI data training or annotation, claims or underwriting quality assurance, policy drafting or review, and insurance editorial experience are strongly preferred.
