Job Summary

SME Careers is seeking a Compliance and Regulatory subject-matter expert for an hourly, remote contractor role. The expert will review AI-generated compliance, regulatory, and risk outputs and/or create specialist content, assess step-by-step decisions, and provide precise written feedback. The work covers accuracy, clarity, completeness, and prompt adherence; errors in regulatory interpretation, policy and control design, monitoring logic, reporting or disclosure requirements, and risk-based reasoning; verification of compliance claims and terminology; development of model explanations; and comparison of responses for correctness and reasoning quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Create detailed prompts and gold-standard compliance outputs such as policies, control descriptions, monitoring plans, risk assessments, and regulatory summaries.
• Evaluate and rank AI responses for correctness, defensibility, clarity, and practical usefulness.
• Test output for inaccuracies, unsafe or noncompliant guidance, misleading certainty, and bias across scenarios.

Your Profile

• A bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Law, Finance, Risk or Compliance, Public Policy, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 5 years of professional compliance and/or regulatory experience in financial services, healthcare, technology and privacy, insurance, energy, or another regulated industry.
• Strong knowledge of risk-based compliance programmes, control design, monitoring and testing, issue management, remediation tracking, and documentation standards.
• Experience interpreting regulations and converting them into policies, procedures, training, and operational controls.
• Familiarity, as applicable, with GRC tools, ISO-style controls, SOC 2 and SOX awareness, AML/KYC basics, GDPR and CCPA privacy concepts, and vendor or third-party risk.
• Minimum C1 English and excellent judgement in identifying missing assumptions, overconfident claims, and false certainty in regulatory guidance.
• Strong writing skills for clear, defensible policies, SOPs, control narratives, and risk assessments.
• Reliability, independence, and consistent quality in an hourly remote workflow across time zones.
• Professional certifications such as CRCMP, CAMS, CCEP, CIPP/E, CISA, CIA, or CRISC are advantageous.
• AI data training or annotation, compliance quality assurance, audit or regulatory-examination support, or policy editorial work is strongly preferred.
