Job Summary

SME Careers is seeking an Attorney and Lawyer subject-matter expert for an hourly, remote contractor role. The expert will review AI-generated legal responses and/or create specialist legal content, assess step-by-step issue analysis, and give precise written feedback. Work includes checking accuracy, clarity, completeness, and prompt adherence; finding errors in legal reasoning, rule application, procedure, and the treatment of risks or assumptions; verifying legal concepts and citations when required; writing model answers; and comparing multiple responses for correctness and reasoning quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed prompts and gold-standard legal material, including issue analyses, drafting examples, checklists, policies, and memoranda.
• Evaluate and rank AI responses for correctness, clarity, defensibility, and awareness of legal risk.
• Test output for inaccuracies, misleading certainty, confidentiality risks, and bias across legal scenarios.

Your Profile

• A JD, LLB, or equivalent law degree, together with active bar membership or eligibility in at least one jurisdiction.
• At least 5 years of professional legal practice in a law firm, in-house team, government body, or legal-aid setting.
• Strong issue-spotting and structured legal-analysis ability, moving from rules through application to a conclusion while identifying assumptions and uncertainty.
• Demonstrated experience in one or more practice areas, such as commercial or contract law, employment, privacy, corporate law, litigation, intellectual property, real estate, or compliance.
• Strong legal research skills, including finding and synthesising statutes, regulations, and cases and characterising holdings accurately.
• Excellent drafting and editing ability across contracts and clauses, memoranda, letters, policies, and pleadings where applicable, with close attention to precision and tone.
• Minimum C1 English and exceptional care when finding overconfident claims, missing exceptions, jurisdictional traps, procedural risks, or errors of fact.
• The ability to evaluate internal consistency, client safety, and contextual suitability, including distinctions between consumers and businesses or HR and litigation settings.
• Reliability, independence, and consistent quality in an hourly remote workflow that may span time zones.
• Prior work in AI data training or annotation, legal quality assurance, editorial review, or knowledge management is strongly preferred.
